How Does a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Work?
A Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger consists of a series of tubes enclosed within a cylindrical shell.
One fluid flows through the tubes (tube side) while the second fluid flows around the tubes within the shell (shell side).
Heat is exchanged between the two fluids—without mixing them—through the tube walls.
The design can be configured for counter-flow, parallel-flow, or cross-flow depending on efficiency and space requirements.
